Bow Ear Warmer Pattern

I love making ear warmers because they're quick and make awesome gifts. I think this ear warmer would look great with two colors (maybe a different color bow or border). You can totally customize this and play with the colors.

You may sell the finished product from this pattern, but please reference and link this post. Please don't claim this pattern as your own or sell the pattern. I'd love to see pictures of your finished product! You can post them on Ravelry or on my Facebook Page.

Materials:
<1 skein of Burgundy Vanna's Choice yarn
Size H crochet hook (5.00 mm)
Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch

Bottom Portion of Ear Warmer:
Ch 5

Row 1:
In second ch from hook, hdc and in each ch across. Ch 1 and turn. (4 hdc)

Row 2:
Hdc in each hdc across. Make the hdc in the loop below the two stitches you would normally make the hdc in. This gives the knit ribbing effect (4 hdc)

Repeat Row 2 until the piece fits around your head.

Fold the piece in half and sl st the ends together to make a circle. Turn the piece inside out so the seam is hidden. Turn the piece on its side; you will now be working in rounds.

Middle Portion of Ear Warmer:

Round 1:
Hdc evenly around. Do not sl st to join. Place stitch marker at the beginning and work in a continuous round.

Round 2-5:
Hdc in the third back loop of each hdc around. Do not sl st to join. Move the stitch marker up at the end of each round. If you turn the piece towards you, you should be able to see the third back loop behind the two normal stitches. When you make the hdc in that third loop, it pushes the two loops to the front to create the knit ribbing effect.

When finished, skip 1 st and sl st in the normal hdc st (not the loop behind the st). Fasten off.

Top Portion of Ear Warmer:
Ch 5

Row 1:
In second ch from hook, hdc and in each ch across. Ch 1 and turn. (4 hdc)

Row 2:
Hdc in each hdc across. Make the hdc in the loop below the two stitches you would normally make the hdc in (4 hdc)

Repeat Row 2 until the piece is the same circumference as the ear warmer.
Fold the piece in half and sl st the ends together to make a circle. Fasten off leaving a long tail (~12 inches). Fold the piece inside out so the seam is hidden.

With the tapestry needle, sew the Top Portion of the ear warmer to the top of the Middle Portion of the ear warmer. Go through the back loop of the hdc on the ear warmer. I matched up the seam from the Top Portion to the seam from the Bottom Portion. That way both seams can get covered by the bow.

Weave in all ends.

Bow Piece 1:
Ch 19

Row 1:
Hdc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2 and turn (18 hdc)

Row 2-8:
Hdc in each st across. Ch 2 and turn (18 hdc)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Bow Piece 2:
Ch 11

Row 1:
In second ch from hook, sc and in each ch across. Ch 1 and turn (10 sc)

Row 2-6:
Sc in each st across. Ch 1 and turn (10 sc)

Fasten off leaving a long tail (~12 inches). Weave in the first tail to make the sewing easier.

Bow Assembly:
Scrunch up Piece 1 of the bow and wrap Piece 2 around it. With the tapestry needle, sew the ends of Piece 2 together tightly so it stays in place. With the long tail still from Piece 2, sew the completed bow to the ear warmer.

Weave in any remaining ends.

If any of my instructions are confusing, please let me know in the comments and I will try to clear things up!
