Beanie with Ear Flaps and a Bow

I know, it's been forever since my last pattern. I'm bummed that I don't have more time to dedicate to this blog, but I'm glad that my previous patterns are being used and that you guys are posting your pictures! I have so many draft patterns written up, and hopefully some day I'll be able to complete the patterns and projects to share with you all.

A co-worker requested this beanie for her five year-old daughter. Although this pattern is written for a toddler, Liz from Crochet in Color posted a very helpful guide for beanie making for all ages. I'll show you how you can adjust this pattern using Liz's guide to fit anybody, with any weight yarn. It'd make a perfect gift with the holidays coming up and cold weather approaching.

You may sell the finished product from this pattern, but please reference and link this post. Please don't claim this pattern as your own or sell the pattern. I'd love to see pictures of your finished product! You can put them on Ravelry or post them on my Facebook Page.

Materials:
Size H crochet hook (5.00 mm)
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
1 skein of Lavender Loops & Thread Impeccable  [A]
1 skein of Aran Loops & Thread Impeccable [B]

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc =  double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st = stitch
yo = yarn over

Notes:
This pattern is worked in a continual round. Move the stitch marker up at the beginning of each round.

Special Stitch:
Hdc2tog = yo, insert hook into next st. Yo, pull up a loop. Yo, pull through two loops. Yo, insert hook into next st. Yo, pull up a loop. Yo, pull through two loops. Yo, pull through last three loops on hook. You have combined two hdc stitches into one.

Beanie:
With [A], make a magic circle and ch 1 (does not count as hdc). Make 6 hdc in the circle. Place stitch marker in place.

Round 1:
2 hdc in each stitch around (12 hdc)

Round 2:
*1 hdc in next stitch. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st (18 hdc)

Round 3:
*Hdc in each of the next 2 stitches. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st (24 hdc)

Round 4:
*Hdc in each of the next 3 stitches. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st (30 hdc)

Round 5:
*Hdc in each of the next 4 stitches. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st  (36 hdc)

Round 6:
*Hdc in each of the next 5 stitches. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st  (42 hdc)

Round 7:
*Hdc in each of the next 6 stitches. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st  (48 hdc)

Round 8:
*Hdc in each of the next 7 stitches. 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *, ending on 2 hdc in last st  (54 hdc)

If you want to make the beanie for an adult, continue increasing the number of hdc between the 2 hdc in next st. For example, the next increase round would read *Hdc in each of the next 8 stitches. 2 hdc in next st*. Then the next would read *Hdc in next 9 stitches. 2 hdc in next st*. Continue increasing until the diameter of your hat is the correct length according to Liz's guide.

Round 9:
Hdc in each st around (54 hdc)

Round 10-14:
Repeat Round 9

Round 15-16:
Before ending Round 14, switch to [B]*. Dc in each st around (54 dc)
*Alternatively, fasten off and then join [B].

Round 17:
Before ending Round 16, switch back to [A]*. Hdc in each st around (54 hdc).
Fasten off.

Ear Flaps:
Attach [A] with a sl st bottom of beanie.

Row 1:
Hdc in 10 st. Ch 2 and turn.

Row 2:
Hdc2tog. Hdc in 6 stitches. Hdc2tog in last 2 st. Ch 2 and turn.

Attach 2 strands of yarn about a yard long to the center of the bottom of the flap with a sl st. Ch 40. Fasten off. Trip ends of yarn evenly.
